Unsafe? Better Use? Union Members ponder the HANC Recycling in Golden Gate Park and the visitors it brings.
Union members to discuss HANC and the recycling program in Golden Gate Park. Many members have voiced concerns about the safety of the Parks that has declined in recent years as a result of folks who are lured by these recycling facilities. At the Marina Safeway for example, the residents have been successful at gaining a variance to prohibit these facilities because they create blight and lead to criminal activity. At the Safeway in the Western Addition, the Community for years has petitioned for a similar variance as a result of the frequent, automobile breakins and criminal activity. Now, the SFRPD is looking to create a safer and alternate use for the location that has hosted the recycling center in Golden Gate Park. Union members should decide for themselves what is best for the Park and the Park users moving forward.
